The original was created by Maxfield Parrish for The Century: Midsummer Holiday Number for August 1897. This design for a poster competition ultimately won the second prize. The Century was an American monthly magazine in which fiction and poetry were published. With a wide range of articles on history, politics, science and, for example, travel.
