Merovingian bronze brooch with zooform pierced decoration and stylized finishes Culture: Merovingian Proposed dating: Imperial period, 6th-8th centuries AD Material: Cast bronze. Interesting and unique ornamental bronze appliqué, with an elegant symmetric composition and careful geometric decoration, possibly belonging to an ancient strap or harness buckle from Roman times. The piece presents a body with architectural contour, enriched by relief moldings, two circular holes arranged symmetrically, and a central motif of concentric circles framed by angular lines. Its upper part is capped by an elaborate composition of triangular elements and diverging moldings, while the lower end features three extensions, with the two lateral ones elegantly curved outward. It especially highlights the contrast between the dark bronze background and the reliefs of earthy golden tones, which enhances the richness of the ornamentation and provides a notable aesthetic presence. Condition: Good visual and apparent structural integrity. Retains its front decoration, both holes, and the rear hoop. Shows surface wear and earthy deposits. An attractive example of ancient metalworking, particularly interesting for the complexity of its geometric design, the harmony of its composition and its singular fixation system.
