Background Information: This medieval bronze finger ring dates to the Crusader period and is distinguished by its oval bezel engraved with a simple arrangement of parallel vertical lines. Such restrained geometric decoration is characteristic of many bronze rings from the 11th–14th centuries, reflecting the practical yet refined aesthetic of medieval personal jewellery. Finger rings of this type were worn by both men and women throughout the Crusader States and neighbouring Byzantine and Islamic regions. While some medieval rings functioned as signets or devotional objects, many examples with linear or geometric decoration served primarily as everyday personal ornaments. Their understated designs demonstrate the blending of artistic traditions that emerged through the extensive cultural contacts of the eastern Mediterranean during the Crusader era. The ring was cast in bronze using established medieval metalworking techniques and finished by hand, with the bezel carefully engraved after casting. Bronze remained a widely used material for jewellery because of its durability, availability, and ease of manufacture. Comparable rings have been recovered from Crusader settlements, fortifications, and medieval urban centres, illustrating the broad distribution of this style across the region. Dating to the High Middle Ages, this ring represents the everyday craftsmanship of the Crusader period. It forms a tangible connection to the medieval world, where such objects were regularly worn as practical and decorative accessories and reflected the rich cultural exchanges of the time."
