Background Information: This cast bronze finger ring dates to the Crusader period and features a flat oval bezel engraved with a stylised cross. Rings of this type were widely worn throughout the Crusader States and the eastern Mediterranean during the 11th–14th centuries, serving both as personal ornaments and as expressions of Christian identity. Bronze rings were everyday items worn by people from many levels of medieval society, including merchants, pilgrims, craftsmen, and soldiers. While gold and silver rings were reserved for the wealthier classes, bronze examples provided a durable and affordable alternative. The engraved cross reflects the religious culture of the period and may have served as a visible symbol of faith or personal devotion. It should not, however, be assumed that every ring bearing a cross belonged to a crusader, as such motifs were widely used throughout the medieval Christian world. These rings were produced by skilled metalworkers using established casting techniques, after which the bezel was engraved with simple religious or geometric motifs. Similar examples have been recovered from Crusader castles, towns, pilgrimage sites, and settlements across the Levant, illustrating the widespread use of such personal objects during the medieval period. Dating to the 11th–14th century A.D., this ring belongs to a period of intensive cultural exchange betweenope and the eastern Mediterranean. It forms a tangible connection to the medieval world, where objects of this kind combined everyday utility with personal faith and accompanied their owners throughout daily life.
