Medieval

Large and Heavy — 70 mm — 35.29 g — Wearable with Silver-Coloured Chain An impressive and unusually substantial bronze cross pendant, distinguished by its powerful geometric form, beautifully aged greenish patina and remarkable weight of 35.29 grams. Measuring an impressive 70 mm in height, this striking cross features four broad, slightly flaring arms, creating a harmonious and monumental silhouette. At the intersection stands a prominent circular boss, decorated with an intriguing incised cross-like motif, giving the composition an additional symbolic dimension. The arms display subtly raised terminal borders, while the bronze surface reveals a fascinating combination of deep green oxidation, earthy tones and warm copper-coloured highlights. Symbolism — The Four Directions of Faith The cross has long represented faith, protection, sacrifice, hope and spiritual triumph within Christian tradition. Its four projecting arms may be interpreted symbolically as the four directions of the world, expressing the universal reach of faith and divine protection. The central circular boss creates a particularly interesting focal point. Symbolically, the circle can represent eternity, unity and the unbroken nature of spiritual life, while the intersecting lines evoke balance and the meeting of the earthly and heavenly realms. Together, these elements give the pendant an evocative character — a cross that can be appreciated not only as an expression of faith but also as a personal emblem of strength, perseverance and spiritual protection. An Impressive Wearable Piece Unlike smaller devotional crosses, this example stands out through its exceptional size, substantial weight and bold sculptural appearance. The integrated suspension loop allows the cross to be worn as a striking necklace pendant, as illustrated with a silver-coloured chain. Its richly textured bronze surface and distinctive proportions make it an attractive piece for collectors of historical-style devotional jewellery, crosses and symbolic religious objects. Measurements: 70 mm Weight: 35.29 g Material: Bronze (subject to verification) Condition: Textured surface with greenish and brown patination, as illustrated.
