Melibeo Sampogna - Lettere curiose

Ponziano Conti (Melibeo Sampogna) – Curious Letters, or historical correspondence, critique, philosophy and gallantry among three traveling friends in different parts of the world – Naples, 1755–1756 Second Neapolitan edition. Six volumes (III–VIII) bound in three volumes. Work incomplete for volumes I and II. An interesting eighteenth-century collection of letters on historical, philosophical, scientific, geographical and literary topics, presented as correspondence among three traveling friends in different parts of the world. Translation from French by Melibeo Sampogna, pseudonym of Ponziano Conti. Second edition, revised, improved and enriched with ten additional letters compared to the first edition. Naples, at Alessio Pellecchia, at the expense of Giacomo-Antonio Venaccia, 1755–1756. Lot consisting of volumes III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII, collected in three physical volumes. Volumes I and II of the original eight-volume work are missing. Contemporary bindings in full leather with gilded floral decorations on the spines, labels with titles and numbering, red-edged pages. Conditions: evident signs of age and use, with abrasions and losses of leather to the spines and extremities, wear to the corners, stains and browning of the pages. Refer to the photographs for a detailed assessment of the conservation status. A set of certainly great interest for lovers of literature, encyclopedic culture and the editorial history of the eighteenth century.
