Memphis, Tennessee. Farmers & Merchants Bank of Memphis. 1854 $500.

Memphis, Tennessee. Farmers & Merchants Bank of Memphis. 1854 $500. PCGS Currency Good 6. No. 126. Plate A. Chartered in 1833, the Farmers & Merchants Bank is a well-represented institution among surviving Obsoletes on Tennessee owing to its eventual failure 1854. This well-circulated $500 is nonetheless contemporary to that failure and offers much for the grade assigned. The paper body is intact with major elements of the design clear despite circulation while penned elements are also retained. No doubt a perfect piece for the collector who seeks better Obsolete material from both Tennessee and Memphis. PCGS Currency comments "Repairs; Design Redrawn." Estimate: $500 - $700. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Whitman Plate Note.
