Dysis Astarté in finely carved terracotta. She is depicted standing, hands resting under her generous chest, richly adorned with jewelry: bracelets, earrings, and a necklace. Her face, with delicate features, is crowned by a fringe beneath an elegant headdress. Astarté is a Phoenician/Canaanite goddess of love, sex, war, and hunting. She is often associated with the god Baal, with whom she forms a couple. Mesopotamia, Susa, 2nd millennium BCE - 1500/1100 BCE. A remarkable statue, from the archaeology collection of an amateur of ancient art.
