Pre-Columbian, Mexico. A group of sixteen pottery figure heads and torso fragments from cultures of ancient Mexico. The largest is the upper body of a female figure with applied earspools, a collar, and a modeled navel. Other torsos include a female figure with bulbous thighs, a male figure wearing a loincloth, and a standing figure with applied round eyes. The heads have slit, punched, and applied eyes, and several wear turbans, earspools, or headdresses with incised bands. One small figure is shown seated with arms at its sides. Figurines of these types were modeled by hand and often placed in burials. Item # 203826
