Michael Joseph (1941-) - Lady, Car & Child - unique vintage darkroom print

Off We Go! – Mother & Child with a Classic British Car, 1960s Michael Joseph | Circa 1968 | Original Vintage Silver Gelatin Photograph | Hand-Signed A wonderfully nostalgic glimpse of British suburban life in the Swinging Sixties, featuring a mother preparing to set off on a little adventure with her young child. Standing beside the open driver's door, the woman exchanges a quiet moment with the child already seated inside. Behind them, a typical suburban house, garage and another classic motor car complete this charmingly ordinary scene. The polished chrome, fashionable clothes and family driveway perfectly evoke an era when owning a car represented freedom, independence and the promise of new adventures. A Little Mystery for Classic Car Enthusiasts! The car itself is an intriguing piece of 1960s British motoring history. Its distinctive grille, chrome detailing and compact proportions have prompted different suggestions as to its identity. ChatGPT tentatively identified it as an Austin 1100, while Google Lens suggested a Triumph Herald. We're therefore leaving the final identification to the classic car enthusiasts amongst you! What we can say is that its registration, TPO 90F, is consistent with the 1967–68 registration period, making it a wonderful example of the motoring fashions of the late 1960s. A Fascinating Discovery in Michael Joseph's Archive The reverse of the photograph bears Michael Joseph's original job reference 478, corresponding to an archive entry dated 18 May 1968, relating to an NSU cars commission. The reference provides a fascinating connection to Michael's commercial photographic work at the time. And what an extraordinary moment in his career! Less than a month later, on 7–8 June 1968, Michael Joseph would photograph the Rolling Stones for their legendary Beggars Banquet album. From a quiet suburban driveway to one of rock music's most celebrated photographic sessions in the space of a few weeks - a wonderful illustration of the remarkable diversity of Michael's work! An Original Vintage Photograph Photographer: Michael Joseph (b. 1941) Title: Lady Taking Child / Off We Go! Date: Circa late 1960s; associated archive reference dated 18 May 1968 Location: London, Britain Vehicle: Unconfirmed 1960s car, possibly an Austin 1100 or Triumph Herald or "Lookalike" by NSU Cars! Please note a visible mark or slight discolouration near the upper edge of the mount, illustrated in the accompanying close-up photograph. The reverse also retains old mounting tape, handwritten archive references and minor age-related marks - interesting reminders of its working history. We have deliberately left the original presentation untouched, preferring to preserve its vintage character. Please examine all accompanying photographs carefully before bidding, as they form an important part of the condition description. We believe in complete transparency and would much rather our buyers be pleasantly surprised than disappointed! Important – Framing & AI Illustration The accompanying AI-generated interior photograph is provided purely as decorative inspiration. It is not necessarily to scale, and the frame shown is NOT included in the sale. The photograph is supplied in its existing mount, exactly as shown in the original listing photographs. A charming and evocative piece of British social and motoring history, combining the nostalgic appeal of a classic 1960s family car with the unmistakable photographic eye of Michael Joseph.
