Born in 1931, Michel Saillour established himself as a painter and engraver whose work, at once sensitive and rigorous, fully belongs to the great French post-war tradition. Trained in an artistic milieu during reconstruction, he developed very early a personal language where light, matter and structure become the foundations of his plastic research. As a painter attentive to atmospheres, Saillour explores landscapes, still lifes and intimate scenes with a subtle and nuanced palette. His compositions, of great sobriety, exude a silent, almost meditative presence. Each painting testifies to a rare mastery of space and a keen sense of balance. Parallel to his pictorial work, Michel Saillour also distinguishes himself as an engraver, a field in which he excels through the refinement of his line and the precision of his compositions. His prints, often imbued with the same poetry as his paintings, reveal a strengthened graphic sensibility and a high technical standard. This dual practice reinforces the coherence of his oeuvre and testifies to a constant curiosity for the possibilities offered by different media. Recognized in galleries and national salons, Saillour attracts a loyal audience, sensitive to the delicacy of his vision and the quality of his plastic writing. Today, his works — paintings and engravings alike — are sought after for their timeless elegance and their ability to establish a calm dialogue with space.
