Michelin - Société Moderne de la Lacquer et de l'Email - Enamel sign - Iron

Michelin enameled sign from January 1978 (1-78). Made in France, it is in excellent condition and measures 65cm x 65cm, weighing about 4.5 kg. The acronym "SMLF" stands for "Société Moderne de la Laque et de l'Émail", based in Tournus, Burgundy, France. The company specialized in producing high-quality enamel advertising signs, active mainly between the 1940s and 1970s. They often depicted the famous Michelin man, Bibendum, in various poses, or other iconic brand elements, such as tires and advertising messages. The enamel Michelin signs produced by SMLF are today collectible items, highly sought after for their quality and classic design. The acronym "SMLF made in France" therefore indicates that the sign is a period piece and original.
