Ancient folding brass thread-counting magnifying loupe, a precision optical instrument intended for close observation and inspection of small details, especially on textiles, prints, engravings and other surfaces. The instrument features a convex magnifying lens, a square opening delimiting the observation area, and a folding frame allowing it to be stored in its cylindrical brass case. Fine antique craftsmanship with finely striped edges and a considerable patina from use. Shows signs of use and oxidation consistent with its age. Manufacturer not identified. Estimated dating: second half of the 19th century, around 1850-1900.
