Very rare intimate portrait of Miles Davis at the piano (limited edition, now sold out). This shot was taken during his sessions for “Kind of Blue,” one of the most influential Jazz albums of all time. It is one of the most iconic prints by Don Hunstein, the famous Jazz photographer who was among the few to gain access to Miles’ intimate circle. Description : - Artist: Miles Davis (1926-1991) - Photographer: Don Hunstein (1928-2017) - Title: "Miles to the Piano" taken in 1969 - Signature: * Certificate of authenticity on the back with the gallery YellowKorner official stamp, now exhausted from commerce. * Published by YellowKorner gallery in 2011 in very small quantity, the artist Don Hunstein having requested an early halt to prints at YellowKorner. The photograph is titled and hand-numbered (No. 911). It was produced as a silver gelatin print from the artist’s 1969 original work. - Technique: Silver gelatin print mounted under a white passe-partout, printed by a professional lab Labo Zeinberg (France) for art gallery Yellowkorner, manually verified, titled and hand-numbered with the artist’s name below the photo on the passe-partout. The passe-partout: It is a card stock panel covered with high-quality white laid paper, with a bevel-edged window cut to accommodate the print. This passe-partout highlights the work and gives it more depth. - Edition: out of print and not available on the market - Condition: Print in excellent condition. Just a slight crease at the lower right corner of the passe-partout, which will not be visible at all once framed. About the artist: Miles Davis was an American composer and trumpeter born in Alton, Illinois, United States, on May 26, 1926, and died September 28, 1991, in Santa Monica, California. A towering figure in jazz, he helped modernize the genre to broaden its audience. He was instrumental in the creation of jazz fusion, a movement that blends jazz with other musical worlds, such as rock or funk. Numerous musicians emerged from his groups, including John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock. A staunch advocate for the Black cause, he is one of the first Black musicians to be recognized by America on par with Louis Armstrong. About the photographer: Don Hunstein (1928-2017) was an American photographer renowned for his iconic portraits of music legends. He captured Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Johnny Cash for Columbia Records. Early life and beginnings: Born November 19, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. Holds a BA in English from Washington University (1950). Joined the US Air Force and discovered photography in England with a Leica, inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Career at Columbia Records: Joined Columbia Records in 1956. Created more than a hundred album covers and over 100,000 photographs. Captured pivotal moments in the history of jazz, folk, and rock. Major works: Credited with the famous cover for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan (1963) with Dylan and Suze Rotolo in Greenwich Village. Photographed major figures such as Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, and Simon & Garfunkel. Later life: Died in Manhattan on March 18, 2017, at the age of 88. Jazz
