ABOUT THE ARTIST Mimmo Rotella (1918–2006) was an Italian artist and one of the leading figures of postwar European art. Born in Catanzaro, he became internationally renowned for his décollage technique, created by tearing and reassembling advertising posters from city streets into striking compositions. Associated with the Nouveau Réalisme movement, Rotella transformed everyday urban imagery into powerful works that explored mass media, consumer culture, and popular iconography. Alongside his décollages, he produced an important body of graphic works, including serigraphs and lithographs that reflect the same bold visual language. His work has been exhibited in major museums worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art, and he participated several times in the Venice Biennale, securing his place as one of the most influential Italian artists of the 20th century.
