“I and the Sea” Mirian Gomeli Canvas, oil, acrylic, mixed media 96 × 140 cm Curatorial Concept “I and the Sea” is one of the most striking and conceptually developed works by Mirian Gomeli. It expands the theme of the relationship between humans and elemental force in contemporary painting with particular visual intensity. The canvas merges figuration and abstraction into a work of strong emotional and collecting appeal — a painting that is not only looked at but experienced. In the center of the composition sits a figure, absorbed in observing the dynamic movement and beauty of red fish. The red — as the color of life and impulse — contrasts powerfully with the blue‑turquoise space and sets a visual accent that immediately captures the viewer’s gaze. This color contrast enhances the sense of movement and depth and gives the work a pulsating, living energy. The figure is architected in a cubist, fragmented manner; its contours dissolve partly and merge into the structure of the sea. The artist intentionally breaks the classical hierarchy of figure and background: both fuse into a unified dynamic system. In this hybridity arises the central idea of the work — the fusion of individual consciousness with the infinite, collective force of nature. “I and the Sea” is part of a series of the same name in which the artist explores the element water as a symbol of inner transformation. Each work in the series develops, with its own emotional nuance, the same conceptual core — the expansion of human consciousness in contact with the boundless energy of nature. Belonging to this series additionally increases the work’s collecting and investment value, as it is part of a larger artistic narrative. The layered, transparent painting technique creates a vibrating watery effect. Deep blues convey mass and depth, while translucent layers of color give the space lightness and movement. Thus a visual dynamic emerges that retains its intensity even in the digital space — the screen surface appears like a water surface. Transport Due to the large format (120 × 150 cm), the work is shipped rolled on a sturdy, solid cardboard tube.
