After the Rain Miroslav Spadrna (Pintorcheco) Acrylic on canvas 90 × 60 cm · 2026 After the rain, the city seems suspended between reality and dream. The deep blues retain the night’s moisture while the architecture opens up in yellow and golden glints. A red umbrella remains as a trace of an absent presence. Among the structures, the head of a white horse quietly appears, almost dissolved in matter, like a memory that emerges and then vanishes again. The naked tree completes this atmosphere of stillness. When the rain ends, some things disappear and others begin to reveal themselves. • Origin: Born July 28, 1968 in the Czech Republic, in the city of České Budějovice. • Early trajectory: Even before formally studying Fine Arts, he already painted actively and sold his works. At 21 he was known in Germany, the Netherlands, and other European countries. By 25, he had sold over 1,000 works around the world. • Artistic evolution: As he reached 40, he discarded commercial painting and immersed himself in a more authentic and profound artistic expression. He left his home and his former life to work on the street, approaching experiences of poverty, solitude, and passion. At 43, he began a new stylistic and creative phase. • Artist’s philosophy: For him, art is a space of absolute freedom—where he connects with the essence of things and the deepest feelings. Where the only valid time is that of the brush; to create or recreate life on a canvas, paper, or sculpture is, for him, a sublime act. ⸻ Achievements, recognitions and exhibitions • Prizes: • 2023: European Artist Award in Milan, Italy. • 2021: Appointed Czech Republic Art and Painting Coordinator. • Exhibitions: • Participated in a collective exhibition in Berja (Andalusia, Spain) in 2023. • Residencies: • Artist residency in Garachico (Canary Islands, Spain) in 1997. • Representation and critiques: • Since 2025, represented by 1819 Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain. • His work received critical reviews, among others by Antonio Sánchez, director and curator of 1819 Gallery, highlighting his collection as a “pictorial symphony between light, nature and essence,” with a technique that fuses the abstract and the figurative, an intense use of color and a deeply material texture. ⸻ Artistic style His work is characterized by an approach between the abstract and the figurative, where: • Thick, angular brushstrokes predominate, applied with mixed techniques (impasto) that generate a notable three-dimensional effect. • The color palette uses blues, greens and earth tones, often contrasted by intense reds and oranges, evoking both serenity and passion. • Texture is a key expressive element: layers of paint with energy, creating an enveloping and sensory atmosphere. • The composition is built from an asymmetrical harmony, challenging conventions and generating a visual tension that invites ongoing exploration of the canvas. • In several works, the human figure emerges fused with the natural surroundings, as if part of the landscape itself, revealing a deep symbiotic connection with nature. ⸻ General interpretation • A constantly evolving artist: He has traveled a path from commercial success to a more authentic and visceral expression, which even led him to live and create in extreme environments. • Sensory richness: His works seek to involve all of the viewer’s senses: light, color, texture, and emotion in an almost tactile experience. • Spirituality and nature: The fusion between humanity and the natural environment, along with an expressive and emotionally charged technique, points to a deep search for spiritual connection. Miroslav Špadrna | Pintorcheco Contemporary artist — Czech Republic / Spain Miroslav Špadrna, known artistically as Pintorcheco, is a Czech-born contemporary artist and painter, born in 1968 and residing in Spain. His artistic practice unfolds at the meeting ground between abstraction and figuration, constructing a visual language marked by chromatic intensity, matter, movement, and a deep spiritual dimension. His painting is characterized by a gestural, material, and textured execution. Using a palette knife, impasto, and mixed techniques on canvas, Špadrna builds surfaces of great physical and visual density. The layers of paint, the reliefs, and the traces of the gesture turn matter into an essential part of the meaning of each work. Color occupies a central place in his language. Deep blues, greens, and earth tones dialogue with yellows, magentas, and intensely bright oranges. In series such as Indigo Portals, blue stops functioning solely as color and becomes a symbolic space: depth, silence, energy, and passage toward an inner reality. His work investigates universal questions such as inner light, transformation, memory, silence, and freedom. The forms seem to emerge and disappear within the pictorial surface, creating spaces that may resemble landscapes, architectures, figures, or imaginary territories without becoming fully defined. This ambiguity constitutes one of the fundamental elements of his proposal: the viewer does not receive a closed image, but an open space for interpretation and emotional experience. Throughout his career, Špadrna has developed an increasing international presence. Among the recognitions linked to his career are distinctions received in Milan (2023) and Florence (2025), in addition to his appointment as Czech Republic Art and Painting Coordinator in 2021. His work has also achieved international projection through platforms and markets specialized in contemporary art, forming part of a trajectory that connects his Central European origin with his current creative phase in Spain. More than representing a visible reality, Miroslav Špadrna seeks to build emotional spaces. In his paintings, matter, light and color function as doors to inner states where the recognizable and the unknown remain in constant tension.
