Miroslav Spadrna (pintorcheco) - Último sueño

Last Dream Miroslav Spadrna (Pintorcheco) Acrylic on canvas · 90 × 60 cm · 2026 In Last Dream, Miroslav Spadrna builds a territory that lies between the city, memory, and imagination. The architecture does not describe a concrete place: it emerges through vertical blocks of color that resemble buildings, doors, or fragments of a city rebuilt by memory. The great moon quietly dominates the upper part and sets the nocturnal atmosphere. Its presence contrasts with the intensity of yellows, turquoise, and blues of the architecture, turning darkness into a luminous space. On the left, the female figure appears deliberately incomplete, almost absorbed by the pictorial matter. More than a narrative protagonist, she functions as a contemplative presence before that impossible world. One of the most effective elements is the small red boat. Its scale introduces distance and vulnerability in the face of the city’s monumental mass. The luminous reflection that crosses the composition vertically visually connects the moon, the architecture, and the water, while the fragmented reflections make it difficult to determine where the city ends and where its image begins. Technically, the work derives its strength from the opposition between matter and transparency, geometry and gesture, darkness and light. The foregrounds reveal trowel dragging, superpositions and paint accidents that prevent the architecture from becoming overly descriptive. The title Last Dream adds a melancholic dimension without closing the meaning. It can be understood as goodbye, transition, memory, or as that last interior territory toward which the figure moves before the image disappears. The work does not depict a dream: it seems built from the fragments that remain of it upon waking. • Origin: Born July 28, 1968 in the Czech Republic, in the city of České Budějovice. • Early career: Even before formally training in Fine Arts, he painted actively and sold his works. At 21 he was known in Germany, the Netherlands, and other European countries. By 25, he had sold more than 1,000 works worldwide. • Artistic evolution: At 40, he abandoned commercial painting and plunged into a more authentic and profound artistic expression. He left his home and his previous life to work on the street, approaching experiences of poverty, loneliness, and passion. At 43, he began a new stylistic and creative phase. • Artist’s philosophy: For him, art is a space of absolute freedom—where he connects with the essence of things and the deepest feelings. Where the only valid time is that of the brush; to create or recreate life on a canvas, paper, or sculpture is for him a sublime act. ⸻ Achievements, recognitions, and exhibitions • Prizes: • 2023: European Artist Prize in Milan, Italy. • 2021: Appointed Czech Republic’s Art and Painting Coordinator. • Exhibitions: • Participated in a group exhibition in Berja (Andalusia, Spain) in 2023. • Residencies: • Artistic residency in Garachico (Canary Islands, Spain) in 1997. • Representation and reviews: • Since 2025, represented by 1819 Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain. • His work received critical reviews, among others by Antonio Sánchez, director and curator of the 1819 gallery, highlighting his collection as a “pictorial symphony between light, nature, and essence,” with a technique that fuses abstraction and figurative, an intense use of color, and a deeply material texture. ⸻ Artistic style His work is characterized by an approach between abstract and figurative, where: • Thick and angular brushstrokes predominate, applied with mixed techniques (impasto) that generate a notable three-dimensional effect. • The color palette uses blues, greens, and earth tones, often contrasted by intense reds and oranges, evoking simultaneously serenity and passion. • Texture is a key expressive element: layers of paint piled with energy, creating an enveloping and sensory atmosphere. • The composition is built from an asymmetrical harmony, challenging conventions and generating a visual tension that invites continuous exploration of the canvas. • In several works, the human figure emerges fused with the surrounding nature, as if part of the landscape itself, revealing a deep symbolic symbiosis with nature. ⸻ General interpretation • An artist in constant transformation: He has traveled a path from commercial success to a more authentic and visceral expression, which even led him to live and create in extreme environments. • Sensorial richness: His works seek to engage all the senses of the observer: light, color, texture, and emotion in an almost tactile experience. • Spirituality and nature: The fusion of humanity and the natural environment, along with an expressive and emotionally charged technique, points to a deep quest for spiritual connection. Miroslav Špadrna | Pintorcheco Contemporary artist — Czech Republic / Spain Miroslav Špadrna, professionally known as Pintorcheco, is a contemporary Czech-born artist and painter, born in 1968 and resident in Spain. His artistic practice unfolds in the meeting ground between abstraction and figuration, building a visual language marked by chromatic intensity, matter, movement, and a profound spiritual dimension. His painting is characterized by gestural, material, and textured execution. Through the use of a spatula, impasto, and mixed techniques on canvas, Špadrna builds surfaces of great physical and visual density. The layers of paint, the reliefs, and the traces of gesture turn matter into an essential part of the meaning of each work. Color occupies a central place in his language. Deep blues, greens, and earth tones dialog with bright yellows, magentas, and oranges. In series like Portales Indigo, blue stops functioning solely as color and becomes a symbolic space: depth, silence, energy, and passage toward an inner reality. His work explores universal questions such as inner light, transformation, memory, silence, and freedom. The forms seem to emerge and disappear within the pictorial surface, creating spaces that may recall landscapes, architectures, figures, or imaginary territories without being fully defined. This ambiguity is one of the fundamental elements of his proposal: the viewer does not receive a closed image, but an open space for interpretation and emotional experience. Throughout his career, Špadrna has developed a growing international presence. Among the recognitions tied to his career are distinctions received in Milan (2023) and Florence (2025), in addition to his appointment as Coordinator of Art and Painting in the Czech Republic in 2021. His work has also gained international projection through platforms and markets specializing in contemporary art, forming part of a trajectory that connects his Central European origin with his current creative stage in Spain. More than representing a visible reality, Miroslav Špadrna seeks to build emotional spaces. In his paintings, matter, light, and color function as doors to inner states where the recognizable and the unknown remain in constant tension.
