Mirror - Iron, Wood - Ray Mirror

This elegant Louis XVI-style wall mirror, dating from the first half of the 20th century, stands out for its refined interpretation of French neoclassical decorative motifs. Although rectangular in shape, it belongs to the much-appreciated category of mirrors known as sunburst or rays mirrors, a decorative variant inspired by solar symbols that reached great popularity in French palace decoration and were reinterpreted during the 20th century in a more sober, architectural key. The piece features a backing constructed of wood and a finely worked front decoration in gilded metal, organized by a perimetral frame with denticulated rhythms that evoke a sequence of stylized rays. This delicate geometric lattice adds depth and visual dynamism, creating light and shadow effects that emphasize the warm glow of the gilded patina. In the corners, vegetal ornamentation in the form of leaves appears, a motif recurring in the Louis XVI repertoire, which softens the geometric rigidity of the set and provides an elegant naturalist accent. The central mirror, with clean, well-proportioned lines, is framed by an interior frieze of great ornamental richness that reinforces the sculptural character of the piece. The combination of the geometric precision of the rays, the delicacy of the leaves, and the brightness of the gilding gives the ensemble a distinguished and balanced presence, true to the neoclassical taste that sought harmony, symmetry, and refinement. Decorative and timeless, this mirror is a piece of great versatility that can integrate into both classical interiors and eclectic or contemporary settings. Its elegant design, the richness of its ornamental details, and its ability to reflect and multiply light make it an element capable of adding depth, sophistication, and a marked French character to any room.
