Modern Platinum Ring with Diamonds & Sapphires, c. 2000

Art Deco continues to fascinate us to this day. We associate the Jazz Age, the elegant world of early sound films, and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby with clean geometric lines, bold colour contrasts, and a penchant for precious materials. What once seemed avant-garde has long since become the epitome of timeless elegance. No wonder, that jewellery designers repeatedly draw inspiration from the design language of this era. This ring was created around the year 2000 and is a high-quality reinterpretation of classic Art Deco designs. Its octagonal ring face is crafted entirely from platinum and strictly divided into concentric zones. At the center is a large brilliant-cut diamond weighing 1.06 carats. It is surrounded by eight natural, deep-blue sapphires in a faceted fancy cut, arranged in the shape of a cross. Together, all the sapphires set in this ring weigh approximately 1.15 carats. Sixteen additional brilliant-cut diamonds are set into the octagonal contour of the ring face; their bright sparkle makes the blue of the sapphires appear even more intense. The ring shoulders are also set with diamonds and a sapphire each, extending the sparkle all the way to the narrow ring band. The charming interplay of vibrant blue, the brilliance of white diamonds, and cool platinum perfectly embodies the favoured colour palette of historic Art Deco. At the same time, the modern craftsmanship and solid construction reveal that the ring was created at the turn of the 21st century. Thus, the piece of jewellery is not a copy of a historical model, but a confident evolution of the style. The ring is striking, elegant, and, thanks to its flat design, comfortable to wear.
