Moët & Chandon - Aspell Saggers & Co

Gorgeous vintage advertising mirror from Moët & Chandon, created in the famous Art Nouveau style of the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha. A particularly decorative piece with a warm wooden frame, a colorful depiction, and the characteristic elegant vocabulary of the Belle Époque. In the center of the design stands an elegant woman in a long, flowing pink dress, surrounded by flowers and graceful decorative motifs. Her hair is richly adorned with flowers, and she wears a large bunch of grapes, beautifully illustrating the connection to champagne and the vineyard. The scene is framed by ornate floral ornaments in soft shades of green, pink, yellow, orange, and blue. At the bottom, prominently printed are “MOËT & CHANDON” and within the design the text “LE FESTIVAL DU CHAMPAGNE.” The design clearly harkens back to the advertising art of Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939), one of the leading representatives of Art Nouveau. Mucha collaborated with Moët & Chandon around 1899 on various promotional materials, including posters, menus, postcards, and other promotional designs. For the famous Champagne White Star, he chose an elegant woman in a pink dress with grapes, set against a richly decorated background. The original Mucha design dates from 1899 and was printed as a colorful lithograph by F. Champenois in Paris. The mirror offered here, however, is a vintage edition from the latter half of the 20th century, in which the famous design has been applied as decorative advertising on the mirror. The marking “Aspell Saggers & Co. Ltd. ’77” bottom left points to production in 1977. Specimens of this type of Aspell Saggers mirror from 1977 are also known in other finishes. The mirror has a warm brown wooden frame with a classic mitred finish. The mirror glass forms the central part, combined with the printed decoration. The combination of the reflective glass, the floral depiction, and the wood-toned surround gives the whole a characterful and atmospheric look. With its pronounced Art Nouveau character, this mirror is not only a functional item but above all a decorative advertising object. It sits beautifully in a living room, hallway, study, classic interior, vintage decor, or home bar. Even within an interior with Art Nouveau, Belle Époque, or eclectic elements, it makes a striking wall accent. Thanks to the combination of Moët & Chandon, the Mucha language, and the 1977 vintage edition, this is an attractive object for lovers of old advertising, champagne memorabilia, Art Nouveau, and vintage mirrors. Comparable Le Festival du Champagne mirrors are also offered by specialized vintage and auction suppliers as collectibles. On the back there are two eyelets for hanging, making the mirror easy and secure to mount on the wall.
