All auctions / Ethnographical / Mold Industrial design - Large heavy cheese mold

Rare form of a large, heavy rectangular cheese mold, complete with its accompanying lid. Material: heavy, thick solid wood with metal bands and a handle. Origin: the Netherlands. Period: around 1940–1950. The curdled milk was pressed into the wooden mold and then the lid was placed on top. Under high pressure from the cheese press or heavy weights, the excess moisture was squeezed out. It ran through the small holes at the bottom and out of the sides. The lid is called the volgr. The cheese mold is fairly rare, as round shapes are encountered much more often. Dimensions: 36 cm wide, 18 cm high, and 21 cm deep. The accompanying lid is called the volger and measures 29 cm wide, 13.5 cm deep, and 6 cm high. The lid must fit exactly because weights rested on it. Metal handle and the wood on top fixed with wooden pegs. Weight: 5.8 kg. The cheese mold will be well packed and shipped with traceability. NOTE: NO SHIPPING OUTSIDE EUROPE."
