It was first presented to the scientific public in 1786 as ‘Chrysolithe’ from Týn nad Vltavou in a lecture by Professor Josef Mayer of Charles University in Prague, given at a meeting of the Bohemian Society of Sciences (Mayer 1788). Zippe (1836) first used the term ‘Moldavite’, derived from the town Moldautheim (Czech: Týn nad Vltavou) – today in Bohemia (Czech Republic), where the first described pieces originated. Campo Del Cielo meteorites are classified as coarse iron octahedrites of type IAB. This meteorite impact occurred about 4,000 to 6,000 years ago. The first discovery was documented in 1576 by a Spanish captain named Miravel, although the actual impact was probably observed by indigenous Indians who originally called this region “Field of Heaven.” Authenticity guaranteed by IMCA Member No. 0099 The item will be shipped by insured registered mail.
