Mongolian–Tibetan Buddhist Woodblock Amulet Manuscript – late 19th and beginning of 20th century An evocative and unusual Mongolian–Tibetan Buddhist ritual amulet, originating from a monastery and traditionally attributed to the late 19th century. The work consists of a single elongated sheet of paper, measuring approximately 34.5 × 8.7 cm, with Buddhist sacred imagery, symbolic motifs and ritual inscriptions arranged vertically in several registers. The composition appears to have been produced using the traditional woodblock printing technique, a method widely employed for the reproduction of Buddhist devotional and ritual texts in Tibet and Mongolia. Objects of this type were not conceived simply as decorative works, but formed part of the religious and devotional culture of Tibetan Buddhism. Sacred images, mantras and symbolic diagrams could be combined to create objects associated with protection, blessing and ritual practice. The unusually narrow vertical format gives the piece a particularly distinctive appearance and reflects its original function as a portable religious object rather than a conventional manuscript page. Description: Mongolia / Mongolian–Tibetan Buddhist tradition Attributed to late 19th and beginning of 20th century Woodblock print on paper Buddhist ritual/protective amulet Single sheet Dimensions: approx. 34.5 × 8.7 cm Provenance: Private collection The manuscript is preserved in its original antique condition, showing age-related wear, creases, discoloration, small losses and irregularities to the edges. These traces are consistent with the age and historical use of the object and contribute to its authentic character. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. A fascinating piece of Mongolian–Tibetan Buddhist material culture, particularly appealing to collectors of Tibetan Buddhism, Asian manuscripts, Buddhist ritual objects, woodblock prints and Central Asian art. The item will be carefully packed and protected for shipping.
