Montblanc Carrera steel / mechanical pencil The Carrera In the mid-1970s, Montblanc began a partnership with Porsche for a line of entry-level pens that resulted in the Carrera pen line. Of these, the range (launched in 1978) was the high-end range. A tubular design, characteristic of the era, the Carrera pens were made in brushed metal or silver, with an unusual clip. The range was available in ballpoint, rollerball, and fountain pen variants. The nibs were in steel (gold nibs were also offered as an option) and could use cartridges or a converter for ink. The Carrera range lasted until around 1984. Note that the ballpoint was one of the last Montblanc models to use the older refill type (longer than the current version, but these can be adapted with an extender and are used in older ballpoint pens).
