Monumental Spanish Renaissance palace gate with medallion of a Jacobean

Descriptio Wrought iron, gilded and polychromed, with gilded and polychromed wooden appliqués. Measures 379 x 458 cm. An exceptional monumental ironwork of architectural character belonging to the repertoire of the Spanish Renaissance of the first half of the 16th century. The structure presents a rigorous symmetrical composition articulated by turned bars of varying cross-section, enriched with rings, knots, and gilded vegetal elements that lend rhythm and depth to the whole. The crowning element is developed through an elegant succession of wrought iron scrolls decorated with flowers, stylized leaves, and geometric motifs of classical inspiration, topped by polychrome ornamental vases and cups. A circular medallion painted with the figure of a pilgrim carrying a staff stands out in the central axis, an iconography linked to the Jacobean tradition and the devotional symbolism of pilgrimage routes, an element that confers historical and iconographic singularity to the piece. The lower section incorporates a rich tapestry of balustrades and interlaced vegetal motifs that create a refined openwork effect, while the side posts emphasize the monumentality and representative function of the work. The execution demonstrates the mastery of Castilian Renaissance ironwork workshops, capable of combining the structural solidity of iron with complex decoration inspired by Plateresque and Humanist models. The preserved polychromy and gilding, despite restorations, losses, and visible later additions, allow us to appreciate the sumptuous character that these grilles originally possessed, intended to delimit privileged spaces in prestigious religious or civic buildings. Its balanced combination of architecture, decorative sculpture, and religious symbolism places it among the most outstanding examples of 16th-century Spanish artistic ironwork, a discipline in which Spain achieved exceptional development within the European context. Dimensions: 379 x 458 cm.
