Medium & Materials: Hand-carved from a dense, highly mineralized native Zimbabwean serpentine stone (specifically springstone or deep fruit-serpentine variety). The Movement: The Shona sculpture movement is globally renowned for its organic, stylized depictions of human forms, spiritual concepts, and nature. Sculptors use heavy, local metamorphic stones like springstone, serpentine, or verdite to create fluid, smooth contours contrasted against raw, carved textures.
