MUGHAL INDIAN PORTRAIT OF A NOBLEMAN
Ca. AD 1700 - 1900 A gouache painting on paper depicting a bearded nobleman standing in profile against a pale green background, holding a pink flower in his raised right hand. He wears a white jama fastened with a patterned sash and a wrapped turban. A circular black shield hangs at his left hip, decorated with a central star-shaped medallion and gilt floral ornament, with a sheathed sword extending behind it. Delicate flowering plants punctuate the grassy foreground. Size: 295mm x 175mm; Weight: 30g Provenance: Private London collection; Ex. Dutch art market, before 2000.
