Mythological animal - Cult of Mami Wata - Ewe - Togo

Togo Culture Ewe Mythological animal, worship of Mami Wata. Terracotta H.25cm - L.44cm This pottery was part of a Voodoo altar dedicated to the water goddess Mami Wata. It is consulted and venerated for its powers. It receives offerings from its devotees. It can help in matters such as fertility, wealth, prosperity, love and health. This is a beautiful representation of a mythological animal in terracotta. It is an aquatic-style creature, somewhere between a frog, a lizard and other amphibians. On its head there is a male sex organ. On its back a bowl with an egg. Symbol of fertility and power. The bowl is surrounded by plant fibers. The whole is coated with kaolin. The animal seems firmly rooted to the ground, in a pose full of power. A primal and ancestral force animates it. It is an object that radiates. Sold as is, some defects, see photos. A beautiful piece of old and authentic Voodoo collection. Circa 1960. A double-walled and secure packaging will be arranged.
