.C. Nielsen a/s – Large Danish wooden laundry tongs – Copenhagen – 76.5 cm – Vintage A distinctive and decorative Danish household item: an exceptionally large wooden laundry tong(s), equipped with the original factory sticker from N.C. Nielsen a/s of Copenhagen. Such long wooden tongs were used in traditional washing, when textiles were washed in a wash tub or boiler with hot or boiling water. Thanks to the long arms, the hot, wet laundry could be grasped without hands coming into contact with the hot water. The design consists of two long wooden arms connected by a metal hinge, moving like a large pair of scissors. At both ends there are felt contact surfaces, allowing the wet textiles to be firmly grasped without unnecessary damage. With its impressive length of no less than 76.5 cm, it is today not only an interesting historical item but also a beautiful decorative piece for enthusiasts of vintage Scandinavian household items, old domestic objects, and Danish design. Original factory sticker A notable detail is the still-present original paper factory sticker. It reads: N.C. NIELSEN a/s Vestergade 10 1456 København K Telf. (01) 12 50 12 On both sides of the sticker is the round NCN logo. The sticker provides a nice documentation of the Danish origin of the object. The exact production date has not yet been determined; therefore the object is intentionally offered as vintage Danish with no proven exact dating. Specifications Manufacturer/supplier: A/S N.C. Nielsen Origin: Copenhagen, Denmark Item: laundry tongs – wash tongs Material: wood, metal and felt Length: 76.5 cm Maximum width: approx. 13 cm Marking: original A/S N.C. Nielsen factory sticker Condition Nice vintage condition with age- and use-related marks appropriate to its age and original function. The wood has a handsome warm appearance and the tongs have retained their characteristic felt ends. The original factory sticker is also present. Please examine the photos carefully; they form an important part of the condition description. An unusually large and authentic Danish household item that provides a beautiful glimpse into domestic life before the modern washing machine. This item is securely packed and sent with Smart Shipping, registered and insured with tracking.
