[VERY LOW RESERVED PRICE] N.N. - Bible, that is: the whole Holy Scripture, containing all the Canonical books of the Old and the New Testament. By order of the High Mightinesses the States General of the United Netherlands, and according to the decision of the National Synod held at Dordrecht, in the years 1618 and 1619, translated from the original Greek text into our Dutch faithfully. With newly added explanations at the more obscure passages, annotations of the parallel texts (...) - Dordrecht, Jan Barentsz Smient / Gorinchem, Helmich Van Cappel, 1662 - Old Testament + New Testament + Apocalypse books - (19) + 302 / 134 / (12) + 164 / (2) + 66 leaves (x2 = number of pages) - calf binding on oak boards with blind stamping (line borders, medallions, floral motifs); spine with strong ribs; 8 authentic original brass corner pieces and 2 clasps - 42 x 29 cm (GROTE-FOLIO format) Condition: fine / excellent - very neat original with very solid joints, complete, intact spine (rarely clean binding!), complete fittings and very well closing locks; a few quires somewhat shifted; very neat, compact and sturdy block; very neat, very fresh and very white paper! with original endpapers and maps with large original margins! The title engraving shows the city view of Dordrecht from the river looking up.. Special typography with beautiful vignettes and capitals. Must-have for lovers of the States translation, rare editions of the States Bible and old maps. Rare! This edition of the States Bible hardly comes onto the market. Value: 2000-3000 euros Collectors-item! [VERY LOW RESERVED PRICE] On 10 December 1658 the mayors and rulers of the city of Gorinchem authorized Helmich Adriaanz van Cappel to “permit the Bible to be printed, sold and published, in whole or in part, in that form as his preference.” City secretary Hugo van Boxel then had to sign each copy with his signature. This States Bible in folio format came into being in 1662 due to high costs in collaboration with Jan Barendsz Smient in Dordrecht and was printed there by Jacob Braat in his printing house: „In de Werckende Hoop‟.
