Naar Guillaume Coustou - Statue, LES CHEVAUX DE MARLY - 38 cm - Spelter

A beautiful pair of antique French sculptures in patinated bronze, crafted after the world-renowned 18th-century marble masterpieces “Les Chevaux de Marly” by sculptor Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746). The original monumental statues are currently located in the Louvre Museum in Paris. This characterful pair depicts the iconic, dynamic portrayal of two powerful, rearing horses restrained by their horse tamers. The anatomy of both the horses and the handlers is very strong and rendered with great attention to detail. Both figures rest on a whimsically worked, matching pedestal and are finished with a atmospheric, dark-brown patina that beautifully accentuates the depth of the work. The sculptures are in a beautiful authentic condition with an appropriate aged patina.
