While Oreithyia was playing outside, Boreas enveloped her in a cloud and carried her away to the cave where he lived. The abduction of Oreithyia by Boreas is beautifully depicted in this Boizot sculpture. Louis-Simon Boizot (1743–1809) was a French sculptor who became best known for his refined biscuit porcelain models for the Manufacture de Sèvres. He studied at the Académie royale and spent a formative period in Rome after winning the Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1762. From 1773 until around 1800, he led the Sèvres sculpture workshop, where his soft, neoclassical style with a touch of Rococo came to life in sculptural figures and decorative objects. In addition to porcelain figurines, he also designed terracotta models for clock cases and monumental works such as the centerpiece of the Fontaine du Palmier in Paris. His elegant, refined oeuvre constitutes a lasting legacy in French sculpture, visible in both decorative arts and public monuments. The work is shipped with the utmost care.
