The bas-relief named 'VISION' (vision) is designed in Art Deco style and based on the historic relief works by American sculptor Rene Paul Chambellan (1893–1955), originally created on commission for the Chanin Building in New York. CHANIN BUILDING The Chanin Building was constructed in 1929 by Irwin Salmon Chanin (1891–1988). Chanin rose from the modest son of an immigrant family to a successful architect and real estate developer through his own efforts. With the building bearing his name, he wanted to express everything New York City meant to him and can still mean for anyone who chooses to seize opportunities and strive for success. In the building's lobby eight monumental reliefs were installed above ornate bronze grilles. These works collectively bear the theme ‘New York, the City of Opportunity’, in which four mental qualities (vision, courage, enlightenment, achievement) and four physical qualities (activity, exertion, endurance, success) are central for the individual who strives for growth and the attainment of success. ATELIER LAURIER DESIGN The object offered in this auction has been designed and crafted with great care by Atelier Laurier Design.
