The bas-relief named 'Courage’ (moed) is designed in the Art Deco style and based on the historic relief works by the American sculptor Rene Paul Chambellan (1893–1955), originally created on commission for the Chanin Building in New York. CHANIN BUILDING The Chanin Building was built in 1929 by Irwin Salmon Chanin (1891–1988). Chanin rose from the modest son of an immigrant family to a successful architect and real estate developer through his own efforts. With the building that bears his name, he wanted to express everything that New York City meant to him and can mean for anyone who chooses to seize opportunities and pursue success. In the lobby of the building, eight monumental reliefs were therefore installed above elegant bronze grills. Collectively these works carry the theme 'New York, the City of Opportunity', in which four mental qualities (vision, courage, illumination, achievement) and four physical qualities (activity, effort, endurance, success) are central for the individual striving for growth and the attainment of success. ATELIER LAURIER DESIGN The object offered at this auction has been designed and crafted with great care by Atelier Laurier Design.
