Spätes 19. Jahrhundert / um 1900, Marmor, vollrund gearbeitet. Auf der Plinthe rückseitig eingeritzt bezeichnet: Falconet. Auf einem künstlich anmutenden Felsensockel sitzt der geflügelte Knabe Amor in nackter Gestalt, den Oberkörper leicht nach vorne geneigt. Den Zeigefinger der rechten Hand hält er verschmitzt vor die Lippen, um den Betrachter zum Schweigen aufzufordern, während er mit seiner linken Hand im Begriff ist, einen Pfeil aus dem hinter ihm liegenden Köcher zu ziehen. Der Sockel ist mit feinen floralen Reliefs (Rosenmotiven) verziert. Die Skulptur ist eine qualitätvolle und detailreiche Ausführung nach dem weltberühmten Meisterwerk Falconets, welches dieser im Auftrag von Madame de Pompadour für die Gärten des Hôtel d’Évreux (heute Élysée-Palast) schuf und das sich heute im Musée du Louvre in Paris befindet. Das Motiv des schelmischen, den Betrachter warnenden Liebesgottes war im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert eines der beliebtesten Sujets der europäischen Aristokratie und des gehobenen Bürgertums. Höhe: ca. 60 cm. Guter, altersgemäßer Zustand mit leichten materialtypischen Verfärbungen und minimalem Abrieb an den Haarlocken. Ein Zeh des linken Fußes mit minimaler Bestoßung. | AFTER Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716–1791) “L’Amour menaçant” Late 19th century / circa 1900, marble, carved in the round. Incised on the reverse of the plinth: Falconet. Seated on an artificially formed rocky base is the winged boy Cupid in nude form, his upper body slightly inclined forward. With the index finger of his right hand, he mischievously gestures to his lips, urging the viewer to remain silent, while with his left hand he is in the act of drawing an arrow from the quiver lying behind him. The base is decorated with fine floral reliefs (rose motifs). The sculpture is a high-quality and richly detailed execution after Falconet’s world-famous masterpiece, which he created on commission from Madame de Pompadour for the gardens of the Élysée Palace (then Hôtel d’Évreux), and which is today housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The motif of the mischievous god of love warning the viewer was among the most popular subjects of European aristocracy and the upper bourgeoisie during the 18th and 19th centuries. Height: approx. 60 cm. Good, age-appropriate condition with slight material-related discoloration and minimal wear to the hair curls. One toe of the left foot with minor chipping.
