Canadian. A trade silver cross made and marked by Narcisse Roy (1765-1814) and bearing the mark "XY Co" at the centre, identifying it as a trade piece made during an internal dispute at the North West Company between 1795 and 1804. Decorated with simple foliate motifs and with the "Quebec" mark on the lower stem. Narcisse Roy apprenticed under Robert Cruickshank, and according to Quebec Seminary archives, he is known to have made silver for the North West Company, and he also made church and domestic pieces. Quebec. Late 1790s. Marked, "NR", "XYC", and "Quebec".
