Native American Zuni Animal Fetish Shell & Stone Carvings, 10 pcs

Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni Pueblo, ca. late 20th century. A collection of ten hand-carved stone and shell animal fetishes. Two large pieces in iridescent nacre shell - a frog and a turtle - are inlaid with turquoise chip accents, the turtle wire-wrapped as a pendant. A carved nacre otter cradles a small turquoise fish, while a stone horse and a second turtle each carry sinew-wrapped medicine bundles of turquoise, shell, and coral on their backs - a hallmark of the traditional Zuni fetish form believed to activate the spiritual power of the carving. Rounding out the group are a black stone skunk, turkey, bear, mouse, and a pig. The turkey is signed on the base by noted Zuni carver Calvin Weeka. Size of turtle pendant: 2" W x 2.6" H (5.1 cm W x 6.6 cm H) A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 202841
