In most cases, agate refers to chalcedony with concentric or horizontal bands of different colors, but there are many other agate varieties without bands: fortification, moss, star, etc. Agate has been used since antiquity as a valuable ornamental stone and jewelry. It is used to make vases, figurines, souvenirs and decorative items. Jewelry-quality specimens are used to make jewelry and to inlay products made of precious metals and semiprecious stones. Agate mortars are used in chemistry and pharmacy, and in the manufacture of precision instruments there was a demand for agate support prisms for balance scales. Beware of forgeries: natural agates are often dyed and sold as completely natural. More than 70% of agates and agate-based products on the market are artificially colored. Ayurveda says that agate alleviates kapha disorders. In Sanskrit, “kapha” means bodily water, which is present in various organs and tissues (intercellular fluid according to modern concepts). Products made with this stone help increase vitality, have a beneficial effect on the lungs, improve vision and hearing, help fight fears, help with chronic musculoskeletal system diseases, strengthen blood vessels, cleanse the lymphatic system and pancreas, cure skin diseases, protect against infections and gastrointestinal tract diseases. It is believed that agates protect the human body when exposed to radiation. In Mongolia, yellow agate is believed to promote the development of internal Qi energy and give confidence. Lamas believed this stone expelled evil spirits from the human body and home. Agate is a talisman that gives the ability to speak beautifully, be pleasant in communication, make correct decisions and actions, strengthens the mind and makes a person perceptive. Agates protect their owner from the machinations of enemies, protect against energy attacks and “vampirism.” It was believed that agate helped keep lovers faithful to each other.
