Nautilus - Fossilised animal - 10.5 cm - 8 cm

A beautiful, well-sized Nautilus specimen, of unique high quality from Madagascar. Nautilus, a polished fossil from Madagascar. This extraordinary polished Nautilus fossil originated from the jungles of Madagascar. This 120-million-year-old fossil dates back to the Cretaceous period, in an era when the seas were full of ammonite and nautilus creatures that over time fossilized into the splendid specimens found today. This piece displays rich caramel and brown colors in an intricate striped pattern. These colors were caused by colored calcite minerals that replaced the original organic material present in the living Nautilus. The Nautilus specimen has been carefully hand-polished to the highest degree, enhancing the vivid colors of its shells. This Nautilus would be ideal for a collector or as an impressive piece of interior decor in any home.
