All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Navajo Sterling Silver, Turquoise & Coral Cuff Bracelet by Kamisha

Native American, Navajo (Diné). A wide silver cuff bracelet set with nuggets of sky-blue turquoise veined in dark spiderweb matrix, alternating with polished red coral, each stone held in a serrated bezel. Between them the smith has built a small garden in relief: appliquéd leaves (perhaps read as feathers) with chased veining, curling wire scrolls, and clustered silver granules against a darkened oxidized ground. Twisted rope wire frames the stones above and below, and the borders carry crisp repeated stamp work. The interior bears a rubbed maker's mark, a stylized "KB" read as that of Kamisha Begay-Siminoe. Bold and generously colorful, it shows Navajo silverwork in its most celebratory register. Kamisha Begay-Siminoe is the daughter of the late Harvey Begay (1939-2009), one of the most respected Navajo jewelers of his generation and the recipient of an Arizona Indian Living Treasure award in 2005. Harvey was himself the son of Kenneth Begay, the Diné silversmith whose spare, modernist designs helped redefine Navajo jewelry in the mid-20th century, making Kamisha part of a third generation of a notable silversmithing family. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 206090
