His opponents called him "Dennis the Menace" or "The Worm" because he wrapped his body around the opponent like a constricting snake. Dennis Rodman grew up in modest circumstances in South Oak Cliff in Dallas, and at first it did not look as if he would become a basketball star, because he was simply too small. He dropped out of school and supported himself with odd jobs. When he grew taller, he received a sports scholarship at the University of Oklahoma and attracted the attention of scouts. His first teams, from 1986 to 1993, were the Detroit Pistons, with whom he won the championships in 1989 and 1990. He then began his ascent through the NBA. He moved to the San Antonio Spurs, and in the 1995/96 season he joined the Chicago Bulls. In 1998 he moved to the Los Angeles Lakers, and in the 1999/2000 season he played for the Dallas Mavericks. In total, Rodman led the NBA in rebounds seven times and was honored twice with the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. The 2.01-meter-tall player is regarded as one of the best defenders and rebounders in NBA history. In 2000 Dennis Rodman ended his career with the Dallas Mavericks. In 2011 he finally ascended to basketball's Olympus, earning his place in the Hall of Fame. ---
