(1987) remarked that the Mohars RGV 281 and RGV 282 are the earliest Malla coins which feature eight petals containing the astamangala emblems near the rim of the coin. Coins with this device were very popular in Tibet because of the Buddhist symbolism and also because the eight petals could be used as a guideline when cutting the coins into fractions in order to obtain small change.
