Netherlands - Amsterdam; • Nicolas de Fer (1646 – 1720) - Amsterdam

Fascinating and detailed historical-topographical map of the city of Amsterdam, entitled "Amsterdam, Fameux Port de Mer", created by the renowned royal French cartographer Nicolas de Fer (1646–1720) and published in Paris in 1705. The map offers a splendid and meticulous panorama of the Dutch capital at the height of its commercial and urban expansion. The engraving clearly highlights the characteristic radial development of the canals (Grachtengordel), the imposing bastioned fortifications surrounding the city, and the intense maritime activity on the IJ River (Tye Riviere), the latter studded with period vessels finely delineated. The work is enriched by two elegant and ornate cartouches: at the upper left stands the title framed by Baroque motifs with the author's typographic address ("A Paris, Dans l'Isle du Palais..."), topped by a detailed numeric legend ("Renvoi des Chiffres..."). At the upper right there is a second alphabetical legend ("Renvoi pour les noms des Bastions") that individually identifies all the city’s defensive bastions. This famous plate is part of De Fer's renowned cartographic series, specifically the Atlas Curieux and the fortifications collection Les Forces de l'Europe. A collectible piece with striking visual impact and indisputable historical relevance for lovers of Dutch cartography.
