Neyret Frères - Frans Jacquard Geweven Zijdekunstwerk – Neyret Frères –

Antique French Jacquard Silk Weaving Artwork – Neyret Frères – "Les Rameaux" (after Élisabeth Sonrel, 1897) Description: Offered is a beautiful and extremely refined antique French silk fabric (also known as a Stevengraph) from the early 20th century, produced by the world-renowned weaving house Neyret Frères (NF) in Saint-Étienne, France. This detailed collectible shows the iconic depiction "Les Rameaux" (Palm Sunday / Passion Sunday). It is a masterful, monochrome rendition based on the famous Art Nouveau / Symbolist painting from 1897 by the French artist Élisabeth Sonrel (1874–1953). The scene portrays two devoutly praying women during the Mass. Quality and Technique: The Neyret Frères textiles are renowned worldwide for their unparalleled craftsmanship and photographic sharpness. With the help of thousands of ultra-thin silk threads in subtle grayscales, the folds of the veils, the details in the prayer book, and the facial expressions are rendered with extreme precision. An identical exemplar of this particular work is in the permanent collection of the prestigious Musée des Tissus (Museum of Textiles and Decorative Arts) in Lyon. Condition and Details: * Front: The silk textile itself is in excellent antique condition with a beautiful sheen and clear contrast in the threads. * Frame: Framed in a lovely, matching antique frame with a passe-partout. * Back: On the reverse there is an authentic, handwritten note with the text "Juliana 1978", which presumably points to the name of a former owner and the year of donation or registration. * Object: Silk artwork / Jacquard-woven wall tapestry (Stevengraph) * Artist (design): Élisabeth Sonrel (1874–1953) * Maker / Weaving House: Neyret Frères (Saint-Étienne) * Title: Les Rameaux (Palm Sunday) * Period: ca. 1900–1920 * Country of origin: France * Material: Silk * Condition: In very good antique condition (see photos)
