No Reserve - Ct

DESCRIPTION OF CHARACTERISTICS Family: Corundum; Variety: Sapphire; Geographical origin: Thailand; Shape: oval; Cut: cabochon; Optical effect: asterism with a star visible under direct light, natural or artificial; Treatment: heated; Mohs hardness: 9.00; Transparency-Curity: translucent with natural inclusions. The star sapphire differs from ordinary sapphire by the phenomenon called ASTERISM, which appears superficially on the stone when illuminated with direct light. To achieve this optical effect, the stone must be cut cabochon, so as to gather light and then reflect it back outward. Contrary to common belief, star sapphire forms naturally and is a variety of corundum with needle-like inclusions that cause, indeed, the formation of a star on the surface. Photography settings All items are photographed individually with a high-resolution macro lens in an indoor environment with LED lighting at 5000 Kelvin, the color temperature closest to sunlight.
