An oil on canvas by landscape painter and historic preservationist Nora H. Fennell who played a vital role in the early preservation of Mission Dolores in San Francisco. This artwork, circa 1880-1890, features the historic chapel and adjoining buildings under a hazy sky with a flock of birds in flight. An American flag is visible on a tall pole in the center, and a cemetery with headstones and a large wooden cross is depicted to the left of the adobe structures. The painting is executed with soft, atmospheric brushwork characteristic of the nineteenth century California landscape school. A signature is visible in the lower right corner, reading Nora H.
