ORWAY. Bergen Patriotic Society Restrike Silver Medal, 1774. Christian VIII. NGC MS-66. Galster-522; JS-893; Bruun-16034. Diameter: 55 mm. Weight: 87 gms. By Johann Ephraim Bauert (IE BAUERT). Very rare reward medal, only 10 original struck and fewer restrikes; Lustrous and silvery, beautifully countered by the dark golden toning surrounding the devices. The date on the medal is the foundation of the society and the birthday of Prince Frederik, the king's uncle. The medals were not struck until 1777 (this restrike presumably late 19th century). One of the many things displayed on the obverse is a cornucopia or horn of plenty, from which coins bearing Christian 7's monogram flows. Estimate: €1,500 - €2,500. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT.
