A good, delicate lifetime impression of New Hollsteins second state (of three); with the shading of the white strip on the forearm. With a narrow edge around the platemark on two sides; cut just inside the platemark at the lower edge; trimmed to the image on the right. Rembrandt probably had more apprentices than any other Dutch painter of the 17th century. In his Groote Schouburgh, Arnold Houbraken describes an attic on Amsterdam’s Bloemgracht that Rembrandt rented for his pupils to draw and paint from life. Drawings from Rembrandt’s circle in the Albertina, Vienna, suggest that the master himself also participated in these studies of the nude. In 1646, three etchings, including the present seated male nude, were produced after the same model. – Trimmed on the right-hand edge to the image. The corners retouched and the upper right corner tip redrawn. Two smoothed diagonal creases in the upper left-hand corner. A small, careful restoration in the light background. | 1606 Leiden - Amsterdam 1669 | 15.-18. Jahrhundert | Druckgrafik | Nummer: 26x1289 | Provenance: Unidentified collector’s mark (not in Lugt).
