ow available at auction from Second Vintage This 1961 Omega Seamaster presents a classic vintage configuration characterized by a uniquely aged dial. The heavy, even freckled patina across the face gives the watch a distinct, organic character, while the caseback retains a well-defined Seamaster seahorse medallion. Brand: Omega Model: Seamaster Reference Number: 14701 61 SC Serial Number: 18323985 Movement: Automatic, Caliber 562, 24 jewels Dial: Heavily patinated with significant spotting and framed date window Case Size: 34mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-tone, stainless steel caseback Production Year: 1961 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -5-10s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial is heavily patinated, featuring heavy, even spotting and freckling across the entire surface. Applied gold-tone indices and an applied Omega logo complement the aged aesthetic, and the printed text remains fully legible despite the significant patina. A framed date window sits at the three o'clock position. The gold-tone dauphine hands have aged consistently with the dial, showing visible surface oxidation, while the sweep seconds hand displays minor surface wear. Case and Crystal The gold-tone case body is fitted with a stainless steel caseback. The case displays honest wear consistent with age, including moderate scratches and handling marks throughout, alongside visible wear to the gold-tone finish on the lug edges. A smooth, integrated gold-tone bezel frames the dial, showing minor dings and scratches consistent with the rest of the case. The knurled gold-tone crown is clearly signed with the Omega logo on its face. The caseback features a well-defined Seamaster seahorse medallion. The domed acrylic crystal shows light surface scratches visible under direct light, with no major cracks or chips. Movement Inside is the automatic Omega Caliber 562, featuring 24 jewels. The movement displays the copper-colored finishing typical of Omega and maintains a clean overall appearance with minimal signs of oxidation or tool marks. The rotor shows light surface marks but remains generally well-preserved, and the bridges bear clear engravings including the serial number 18323985. Recording -5-10s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring an alligator or crocodile pattern and contrasting light-colored stitching. The strap is in good wearable condition, showing light wear and creasing. Condition Good vintage condition. The gold-tone case shows honest wear, with moderate scratching and visible finish wear on the lug extremities, while the stainless steel caseback retains a crisp seahorse medallion. The heavily patinated dial exhibits significant spotting throughout, matched by consistently oxidized gold-tone hands. The domed acrylic crystal has light surface scratches. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 34mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Seamaster offers a highly distinct visual presence thanks to its heavy, even dial patina. Combined with a clearly signed crown, a defined caseback medallion, and excellent mechanical performance, it is a compelling example of mid-century Omega design. History The Omega Seamaster reference 14701 features a classic mid-century case diameter of approximately 34mm. It is powered by the Omega Caliber 562, a respected automatic movement featuring 24 jewels. The Caliber 562 utilizes a semi-quickset date mechanism, which is advanced by moving the hands back and forth between 8 PM and midnight.
